How to Check the Price Before You Buy
Open the store page on the store you prefer, then confirm the currency and the exact amount shown at checkout. Read the listing carefully and check whether it names the Complete Edition or the original game. The Steam listing is the one that shows the US price of $39.99 and the Steam purchase bonus, so compare it with the others before you pay.
Check your Steam library first if you already own the original. If it is there, the legacy DLC offer and the 75% loyalty discount are the relevant route. If it is not, the Steam bonus describes what a new buyer gets. Keep your store receipts, because they show exactly what you bought and which version is in your library. If a store page shows a price you do not expect, check the currency and the edition name again before you pay, since a listing for the original game and one for the Complete Edition can look similar at a glance.
Why It Is Not a Free Update
The Complete Edition is a separate product. It is not a free update to the original game, and no free access has been announced. Be cautious of any site or video that promises free access, because that is not a legitimate route. The honest ways to pay less are the loyalty discount for existing Steam owners and comparing the regional price in each store before you commit. Our discount guide covers the loyalty offer in more detail, and our free update guide explains why this release is not a free update.
Is It Worth the Price?
Price alone does not settle the question. Launch reception was mixed. Steam user reviews were Mostly Negative one day after launch, with 213 positive and 842 negative reviews. Players reported old bugs, new bugs, performance problems and mods that do not carry over. Those numbers will change, so check the current Steam summary before buying. If the price matters most, count what you would otherwise buy separately. The Complete Edition bundles three campaigns and all of the DLC into one package, so the value question is whether you want that full set. If you only want one campaign, the bundle may matter less to you. The worth it review covers the balance between the content and the launch reception.
