Quick answer
Total War SHOGUN 2 Complete Edition adds a 64-bit engine, DLSS and AMD FSR 3.1, modern controls, a Realm Divide slider and more than 50 newly playable minor factions.

This Total War SHOGUN 2 Complete Edition features page sorts the changes by area, so you can see what is different before you play. Total War SHOGUN 2 Complete Edition is an updated and enhanced version of the 2011 game and all of its DLC, released on October 13, 2026. The headline changes are a 64-bit engine, new UI scaling, rendering technology carried over from Three Kingdoms and Warhammer 3, a Realm Divide slider and more than 50 newly playable minor factions. All of these changes apply to the Complete Edition only. The original build is left as it was.
Engine, Graphics and Display
The engine has moved to 64-bit. The interface supports 1440p and 4K UI scaling, and most of the UI has been reskinned. Fullscreen borderless mode lets you choose the monitor, and the maximum camera height is higher for land and naval battles. The campaign map uses rendering technology imported from Three Kingdoms and Warhammer 3, along with improved shadows, lighting, fog, skyboxes and seasonal lighting transitions.
Units, ships, buildings and terrain have updated textures, and some models have been updated too. The parchment maps now show resource markers. A toggle adds 2.5D movies inspired by Ukiyo-e art, and you can switch back to the originals at any time. Some players report disliking the AI-upscaled visuals, so check gameplay footage yourself before judging the look.
| Area | Change | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Display | 1440p and 4K UI scaling | Most of the UI reskinned |
| Campaign map | Seasonal lighting and resource markers | Updated parchment maps |
| Upscaling | DLSS SR and AMD FSR 3.1 | Depends on your hardware |
Gameplay, Diplomacy and Fixes
The Realm Divide slider offers three settings: the original behaviour, a harder setting, or turned off entirely. Diplomacy adds Quick Deal, which shows how likely each faction is to accept each type of deal. The Complete Edition also adds more than 50 newly playable minor factions across the SHOGUN 2, Rise of the Samurai and Fall of the Samurai campaigns. The full list is covered in our new clans article.
Creative Assembly lists a set of bug fixes. Infantry now suffers fatigue correctly. Hattori and Tokugawa Kisho Ninjas get better stats than regular Kisho Ninjas. Fixes also cover a Mori level-1 port, the chance of ships catching fire in rain, Ikko Ikki Monk and Mori Nanban Trade Ship movement, Fall of the Samurai cavalry charge bonuses, and Light Cavalry spotting distance. Many unit bonus data fixes are included as well, such as Otomo gunpowder units now getting the Otomo cost reduction. For the clan packs behind several of these fixes, see the Complete Edition DLC guide.
The minor factions are spread across the three campaigns. The SHOGUN 2 list includes Amako, Anegakoji, Asai, Ashina, Hatakeyama, Hatano, Honman, Imagawa, Ito, Kiso, Miyoshi, Mogami, Ouchi, Satake, Satomi, Shoni, Urakami and Yamana. The Rise of the Samurai list includes Akamatsu, Ashikaga, Chiba, Doi, Hata, Ii, Inoue, Kitabatake, Kusunoki, Masuda, Nitta, Ochi, Ogata, Okura, Soga, Tatara, Urakami and Yamauchi. Checking these lists first helps you pick a faction before you start a Total War SHOGUN 2 Complete Edition campaign.
Modern Controls and Quality of Life
The control scheme has been matched to newer Total War games. Hold Alt and left-click drag to move units, and use Ctrl, Alt and left-click drag to rotate them. You can also hold the arrow keys to move units, group single units, and save your own key sets.
| Action | Input | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Move units | Alt and left-click drag | Modern control scheme |
| Rotate units | Ctrl, Alt and left-click drag | Modern control scheme |
| Toggle battle UI | Hold Spacebar in battle | Show or hide interface elements |
A bird's-eye battle map view lets you zoom out to see the whole battlefield. Colour-blind presets cover Deuteranopia, Protanopia, Tritanopia and a custom option. Custom Battles include an auto-army button. Hold Spacebar on the campaign map to see overlays for ownership, attitude, diplomatic status, wealth, public order and food. Double-click a foreign agent, army or settlement to open diplomacy directly.
Languages and Multiplayer
Steam lists full audio in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain), Japanese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Turkish. Text is also available in Czech, Korean, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese and Latin American Spanish. Japanese and Chinese now get full voice and text, and the voice language can be set separately from the text language.
The multiplayer side includes Avatar Conquest with a persistent, upgradable general, Co-op or Competitive Campaigns, and hosted Custom Battle lobbies for up to 8 players. Steam also lists LAN play, Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud, a level editor, HDR, Family Sharing, colour alternatives and adjustable difficulty. The official Total War SHOGUN 2 Complete Edition site covers the full feature set.
